More Electric for Less: GWM Reveals ORA 5 Specs and Pricing for Kiwi Buyers
13 April, 2026

The Affordable Electric SUV That Punches Well Above Its Price Tag
GWM New Zealand has confirmed pricing and specifications for its all-electric ORA 5 SUV, and the numbers are hard to ignore. Arriving in Kiwi showrooms from June 2026, the ORA 5 starts at $36,990 before on-road costs for the entry-level Lux variant, positioning it below the similar-sized BYD Atto 2 in the competitive compact electric SUV segment. A step-up Ultra model is also available, priced from $39,990+ORC.
More SUV for the Money
The ORA 5 builds on the smaller ORA hatch with a larger footprint and improved practicality. Despite its increased size and upgraded technology, pricing has been kept in line with the outgoing ORA hatch. It measures 4471mm in length, 1833mm in width, and 1641mm in height, , making it a genuinely practical family proposition without crossing into full-size SUV territory.
Power and Range
The ORA 5 is a purpose-built battery electric vehicle powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150kW and 260Nm, enough for lively urban progress and confident open-road cruising. Energy comes from a 58.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack developed by SVOLT, offering a WLTC-rated driving range of around 430km.
Fast charging is a real strength of the package. The compact SUV supports DC fast charging at rates up to 120kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% capacity in approximately 20 minutes. The vehicle also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system capable of supplying up to 6kW of power for external devices or appliances, which is a handy addition for anyone heading to the bach or a family camping trip.

Interior and Technology
Inside, the cabin centres on a 14.6-inch central display running GWM’s Coffee OS intelligent cockpit, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and features such as wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, DAB+ radio and multiple USB outlets. Both Lux and Ultra variants come with leatherette seating, 60:40 folding rear seats and 362 litres of boot space. The Ultra adds a panoramic glass sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a wireless charging pad.
Safety as Standard
The ORA 5 lists seven airbags, a 360-degree monitoring camera with transparent view, and a long suite of ADAS including adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic braking and traffic jam assist. It is a genuinely comprehensive safety package at this price point.
The Bigger Picture
This launch is part of a broader ambition for GWM in New Zealand. The ORA 5 signals the start of a broader expansion for GWM, with additional ORA EV models set to arrive in New Zealand through 2026 and 2027. Backed by GWM Care, which includes a 7-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty and an 8-year unlimited kilometre battery pack warranty, buyers get real confidence to go with the deal.
