GWM Sets the Stage for a Landmark Arrival with the Tank 300 Hi4 T Plug in Hybrid

9 December, 2025

Ingham Great Lake is is preparing for the arrival of one of 2026’s most anticipated SUVs, with GWM confirming that the new Tank 300 Hi4 T Plug in Hybrid will launch in New Zealand in Q1 2026. The Tank 300 builds on its established reputation for capability and introduces new engineering designed to enhance performance on both road and rugged terrain.

Previewed at GWM Tech Day in September, the Tank 300 Hi4 T uses the same Hi4 T hybrid architecture seen in the Tank 500 and Cannon Alpha. This system has already proven its strength, most notably when the Cannon Alpha Hi4 T became the first and remains the only PHEV to reach the top of Beer O’Clock Hill, a notoriously steep and technical climb that has become a benchmark within off road circles.

Conquering the hill demonstrates precise torque management, sustained low speed control and genuine four wheel drive capability, reinforcing that hybrid technology can deliver real world off road performance.

A 2.0 litre turbocharged hybrid engine sits at the core of the Tank 300 Hi4 T, paired with a 9 speed Hybrid Automatic Transmission to provide strong low end torque and smooth road manners. A true mechanical four wheel drive system, complete with low range and locking differentials, ensures the model remains an authentic off road contender.

With up to 3,000kg braked towing capacity and Vehicle to Load functionality, the Tank 300 Hi4 T supports outdoor lifestyles as well as everyday driving. Its intelligent hybrid system can shift between electric, hybrid or petrol modes to suit changing conditions on commutes, highways and challenging tracks.

Full New Zealand specifications and pricing will be announced in early 2026. Expressions of interest are now open. Drivers seeking a capable SUV with advanced hybrid engineering are invited to register their interest today..
