GWM Tank 500 Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid Coming to New Zealand

GWM has confirmed that the Tank 500 Hi4-T, a plug-in hybrid variant of its flagship Tank 500 SUV, will soon be available in New Zealand. The Hi4-T combines serious off-road hardware with modern hybrid technology and premium comfort, giving Kiwi buyers a new choice in the large SUV segment.
Powertrain and Capability
At its core, the Tank 500 Hi4-T uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 120 kW electric motor. Together they produce 300 kW and 750 Nm delivered through a nine-speed hybrid automatic and torque-on-demand four-wheel drive. The SUV accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, has an electric-only range of up to 120 km and offers a combined range close to 950 km. Fuel use is listed at 2.1 L/100 km on the lab test cycle. Fast charging from 30-80% takes about 24 minutes and vehicle-to-load capability adds extra practicality.
Off-road and Towing Features
Designed for more than city driving, the Tank 500 PHEV includes up to three locking differentials, low-range gearing, 213 mm ground clearance and an 800 mm wading depth. It also boasts a towing capacity of 3,000 kg making it suitable for boats, trailers and caravans. These features allow it to compete directly with established large SUVs in both off-road and towing performance.
Comfort and Technology
Inside, the seven-seat layout has been replaced by a five-seat configuration to allow for the larger battery. This change enhances comfort with heated, ventilated and massaging rear seats plus a dedicated rear touchscreen controller. Up front, a 14.6-inch central display integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto complemented by ambient lighting, three-zone climate control and a wide suite of safety technology. GWM covers the SUV with a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty and an eight-year battery warranty.
