Jaecoo J5 Hybrid Arrives in New Zealand from August

Offered in a single Summit specification, the J5 Hybrid is priced from $39,990 plus on road costs. Jaecoo says the new model is designed for those who are not quite ready to make the leap to a fully electric vehicle, sitting alongside the EV rather than replacing it.

Under the bonnet, a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine produces 105kW and 215Nm, working in tandem with a 150kW, 310Nm electric motor through a series parallel hybrid transmission. It is not a plug in system, so there is no need to charge it. Combined outputs reach 165kW and 295Nm, sent to the front wheels, with fuel consumption rated at 5.6 litres per 100km and CO2 emissions of 126g/km.

Visually, the hybrid shares its body with the J5 EV but adopts a waterfall front grille similar to the larger J7, along with 18 inch alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights.

Inside, occupants get an 8.8 inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.2 inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless charger, and pet friendly synthetic leather upholstery. A fixed panoramic glass roof, acoustic front door glass, and heated and ventilated front seats round out the cabin, while safety is covered by seven airbags, a 360 degree camera, and a full suite of driver assistance systems.

Jaecoo backs the J5 Hybrid with a seven year, unlimited kilometre warranty, plus an eight year, unlimited kilometre warranty on the high voltage battery.
