The Omoda 9 is Coming to New Zealand – A Super Hybrid SUV That’s Hard to Ignore
2 July, 2025

A bold new hybrid SUV is on its way to New Zealand. The Omoda 9 SHS (Super Hybrid System) has been confirmed for our market, with pricing and specifications released, although a launch date is yet to be locked in.
Priced at $68,990 plus on-road costs, the Omoda 9 is positioned as a well-equipped premium SUV designed to offer strong value without the luxury badge markup. Blending coupe-inspired styling, high-end features, and a powerful hybrid drivetrain, it’s set to be a compelling option for drivers looking for something different.
At just under 4.8 metres long, the Omoda 9 offers a large, five-seat interior. Its sleek, coupe-like profile is complemented by muscular lines, flush-fitting door handles, and eye-catching lighting details that give it a confident, high-tech presence.
Under the bonnet, the Omoda 9 features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine combined with three electric motors, delivering a total system output of 395kW. That translates to a 0–100km/h time of just 4.9 seconds. A 34kWh battery enables up to 169km of electric-only driving (based on NEDC testing), and a claimed 1,100km total range. DC fast-charging of up to 70kW allows the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.

Inside, the cabin showcases a strong focus on tech and comfort. Dual 12.3-inch screens, a head-up display, Sony 14-speaker sound system, and ambient lighting all come standard. Heated and ventilated seats in both front and rear rows, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless charging round out the premium package. There’s also a built-in dashcam, fragrance system, 360-degree camera, and auto parking system.
On the safety front, the Omoda 9 includes eight airbags and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance features: adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane-keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking. A seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and roadside assistance is included, alongside an eight-year warranty for the hybrid battery.
Although pricing and full specification details have been announced, Omoda Jaecoo New Zealand has not yet confirmed when the Omoda 9 will arrive. The brand is still reviewing the timing for local release, but expressions of interest are open.
