The Future of Mitsubishi is Looking Electrifying
11 May, 2026

- Mitsubishi Motors’ first hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) to be introduced to the New Zealand market
- More than 77,000 units sold globally since 2023 Indonesia launch (Xforce)
- Pre-launch model to be displayed at Fieldays (Site J42–J46), June 10–13
Mitsubishi is gearing up for one of its biggest years yet in New Zealand, with several exciting new models on the way – led by the all-new hybrid-only Outlander Sport HEV. And for Kiwi drivers wanting better fuel efficiency without the hassle of plugging in, this could be a very big deal.
The new Outlander Sport HEV marks the brand’s first ever full hybrid vehicle in New Zealand. Unlike the well-known Outlander PHEV, this new model does not require external charging. Instead, it uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with Mitsubishi’s latest hybrid system to automatically switch between EV, hybrid and engine drive modes depending on driving conditions.
For many Kiwi families, commuters, and SUV buyers, that means lower fuel use and electrified driving without changing everyday habits.

Mitsubishi says the Outlander Sport HEV has been designed with real-world practicality in mind. It features 212mm of ground clearance along with selectable drive modes including Normal, Wet, Gravel and Mud – making it well suited to New Zealand roads and lifestyle adventures.
Inside, you can expect a big step forward in technology and comfort. Highlights include:
- 12.3-inch infotainment screen
- Wireless smartphone connectivity
- Digital driver display
- Panoramic glass roof
- Available Yamaha premium audio system
- Advanced safety technology as standard
Mitsubishi Motors NZ has also confirmed this is just the beginning. Alongside the Outlander Sport HEV, Mitsubishi is preparing to launch a fully electric vehicle and another new model still under wraps.
Importantly for our current Mitsubishi customers, the current ASX and Outlander ranges are staying put, giving you even more choice across petrol, hybrid, PHEV and EV options.
At Ingham Mitsubishi, we’re excited to see Mitsubishi continue expanding its electrified range while still delivering the practicality, reliability and SUV capability Kiwis know and love. With four Mitsubishi dealerships across the North Island, we can’t wait to welcome these exciting new models into our showrooms. Keep an eye on our Ingham website for more Mitsubishi updates as they get closer to arriving in New Zealand.
