Omoda's Next Big Moves: Compact SUV and Plug-In Hybrid SUV Coming Soon
28 April, 2025

Omoda is accelerating its expansion plans in New Zealand, confirming not just one but two exciting new SUV models on the horizon. The brand, which has quickly gained a foothold locally with the Omoda C5 and E5, will soon offer Kiwi drivers even more choice with the arrival of the compact Omoda 3 and the larger Omoda 7 PHEV.
Omoda 3 in New Zealand
The Omoda 3 is a small SUV designed to slot below the C5, offering a more affordable and city-friendly alternative. Measuring 4420mm long, the Omoda 3 delivers a spacious cabin for its class, while remaining easy to manoeuvre through urban streets. The model will be available as ICE, Hybrid and EV variants, though New Zealand specifications have yet to be confirmed. Regardless of the final line-up, the Omoda 3’s striking design, packed with sharp LED lighting and sporty detailing, ensures it will stand out in the crowded compact SUV segment.

Omoda 7 PHEV
For those seeking a more advanced powertrain and greater versatility, Omoda is also planning to introduce the Omoda 7 PHEV into the New Zealand market. Positioned above the C5 in size and sophistication, the Omoda 7 measures 4620mm in length, offering a more substantial footprint and family-friendly space. Under the bonnet, it features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined 250kW. With an estimated pure electric driving range of around 90 kilometres, the Omoda 7 PHEV is well suited for both daily commuting and weekend escapes.
Inside, the Omoda 7 PHEV showcases a significant leap in technology. A panoramic curved display combines a 12.3-inch instrument panel with a matching infotainment touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. High-end driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring come as standard, reinforcing Omoda’s push into premium territory.

While the Omoda 3 focuses on offering value and style in a compact package, the Omoda 7 PHEV caters to those who are ready to embrace hybrid technology without sacrificing space, performance or design flair. Both models also highlight the brand’s evolving design language, characterised by bold grilles, sleek LED lighting, and sculpted bodywork.
New Zealand-specific details, including final engine options, features, and pricing, will be confirmed closer to launch. However, with the Omoda 3 expected to deliver exceptional affordability and the Omoda 7 PHEV promising cutting-edge hybrid performance, Omoda is clearly positioning itself as a serious contender in both the compact and mid-size SUV categories. With more models, more technology, and more options for Kiwi drivers, Omoda’s growing range reflects its ambition to shake up the market and deliver fresh alternatives to established players.
