Hugely anticipated Kia PV5 Electric Van confirmed for Q3
Press release from KIA NZ
One of Kia’s most eagerly anticipated new model arrivals of all time will touch down in New Zealand later this year, with the marque announcing the new PV5 Van will be available from $64,990 when it goes on sale this quarter.
“With the widest EV range in the passenger and SUV segment, it made sense for the natural progression of our range to enter the commercial market” said Managing Director of Kia New Zealand, Todd McDonald.
“The PV5 is the first step to our multi-step strategy of bringing in electric vans to suit Kiwi needs, with PV7 and PV9 expected in the next few years. There is something hugely appealing about a stylish, functional and massively versatile vehicle that can cover off a whole range of requirements – all with zero tailpipe emissions.
“There is an unprecedented interest in the new model, not just from traditional trade and commercial customers, but also people who desire a vehicle with enhanced space, practical features and considered appointments, as well as the appeal of a full electric powertrain.
“We have confirmed the impending arrival of the Cargo (Five-Door and Six-Door), Passenger Seven-Seat in Q4, followed by the Cargo High Roof (Five-Door and Six-Door) configuration in Q1 of 2027. These new arrivals will open up a world of possibilities for commercial and trade owner operators, large families through to tour group companies and more.
“It’s exciting to be able to deliver such a versatile and innovative vehicle, one which showcases Kia’s technology and development of electrified mobility solutions.”
The first Kia PV5 Van to be confirmed is the Cargo Five-Door, arriving in Q4 and available from $64,990 plus on-road costs (Six-Door variants available as optional $500 extra) . The Passenger Seven-Seat will follow shortly after, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
“Pricing of the new PV5 positions it as an extremely attractive and competitive proposition when compared with existing options in the market,” said Mr McDonald.
“Its all-round aesthetics also make a real statement, it’s a van with a distinct Kia-look and design language, one which I believe is super appealing.”
Power is generated by a 120kW front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 250Nm, fed by a 71.2kWh NCM battery which can charge from 10% to 80% in 30-minutes. Fully charged, the Van is capable of a range of 416km WLTP.
“We are one of the first manufacturers to offer a 22kW charger as an additional option for businesses to cut down charge times, preserve the health of their batteries and keep them moving for longer,” said Mr McDonald.
“We have also put a lot of thought into our total cost of ownership proposition by providing a seven-year manufacturing warranty and two-year/ 30,000km servicing schedule. All of these features help make the TCO equation even more appealing to Kiwi businesses.”
Vehicle-to-load capability will be highly desirable for people wanting to run electrical equipment, such as appliances or tools, from the vehicle’s battery.
Technological developments extend to the cabin environment, including a 12.9-inch satellite navigation display, wireless phone charging, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all of which are integrated via Kia Connect and Over The Air updates.
Safety tech includes forward collision avoidance assist, lane keep assist, smart cruise control with stop and go, and blind spot collision avoidance assist.
The PV5 also offers cavernous proportions, with 4420-litres of cargo space available complemented by a 690kg payload (catering for two Euro Pallets in the cargo space). Overall dimensions are 4495mm long, 1895mm wide and 1899mm tall, riding on a 2995mm wheelbase.
