Bold, Boxy and Under $50K: GWM Haval H7 Set for New Zealand

20 September, 2026

GWM’s run of new-model activity in New Zealand is showing no signs of slowing down. Following the recent confirmation of pricing for its latest diesel and plug-in hybrid models, attention is now turning to another new arrival, the all-new GWM Haval H7, which is confirmed to arrive in mid-October 2026. And it certainly won’t be difficult to spot.

While much of the mid-size SUV market has gravitated towards smoother, more streamlined designs, the H7 takes a noticeably different direction. Upright proportions, squared-off styling and rugged design cues give it a distinctive presence, with an appearance that draws closer to GWM’s Tank models than the familiar GWM Haval H6.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid confirmed

New Zealand buyers will have a choice of two electrified powertrains from launch, with both Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid options confirmed. Both will feature GWM’s Hi4 intelligent all-wheel-drive technology, combining electrification with all-wheel-drive capability. Full New Zealand powertrain specifications have not yet been announced, with further details expected closer to launch.

Perhaps the biggest news so far is the price. GWM has confirmed the Haval H7 range will start at under $50,000, positioning the new arrival firmly within the competitive mid-size SUV market. Exact pricing and individual model grades are yet to be revealed. The H7 will expand an increasingly broad Haval SUV range in New Zealand, joining models including the H6 and H6GT, with the Jolion Max also on the way.

With its distinctive design, choice of electrified powertrains and keenly anticipated pricing, the Haval H7 is shaping up as an interesting addition to the New Zealand SUV landscape.
