The 2025 Tauranga Bay of Plenty Petanque Club (TBPPA) Championship Doubles brought competitive spirit and community pride together in a lively day on the pistes. With the spring weather finally settling, twelve teams took to the terrain and battled their way through rounds of tight matches and impressive skill.
The atmosphere was one of friendly rivalry and shared passion for a fast-growing sport in the region. Players from Tauranga were joined by competitors from neighbouring towns, highlighting the strong connections within the wider Bay of Plenty petanque community.
Tournament Director Roscoe McLeod opened proceedings by acknowledging the support of Ingham Tauranga, whose sponsorship helped make the event possible. This reflects Ingham Tauranga’s commitment to backing local sport and celebrating the people and clubs that bring the community together.
After a full day of play, the finals delivered top-class performances. The championship title went to Sue Calvo and Alain Coulomb from Katikati, who claimed the 2025 trophy with confidence and composure under pressure. Runners-up were Jacques Calvo and Nico Xavier in a closely contested finish. Third place went to TBPPA Club President Linda Inglis and Paul Husband from Whakatane, showcasing both leadership and talent on the piste.

The event not only crowned new champions but also reinforced the value of community-driven sport. With the backing of local businesses like Ingham Tauranga, the club can stage its events with stability, allowing it to grow participation and deliver memorable competitions.
As the club continues its calendar, the outcome of the October doubles event serves not just as a competition result but as a milestone in a growing and well-supported local sporting community.
