GWM Reveals NZ Pricing for Its Latest Diesel and PHEV Models

GWM has confirmed New Zealand pricing for its latest wave of new models, adding another piece to an expansion strategy that spans both traditional diesel power and plug-in hybrid technology.
Following the earlier confirmation of the new Cannon Hi4-T PHEV, pricing has now been set at $58,990+ORC for the Lux and $62,990+ORC for the Ultra. Arriving from late September, the new model will become GWM’s most affordable plug-in hybrid ute, sitting below the larger Cannon Alpha PHEV.
At the other end of the powertrain spectrum, GWM’s new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel is also preparing to arrive in the Cannon Alpha and seven-seat TANK 500, accompanied by another first for New Zealand buyers. Both diesel models will launch in the new Vanta specification, a variant being introduced to the New Zealand GWM range for the first time. The Vanta treatment brings a distinctive blacked-out exterior look, giving the Cannon Alpha and TANK 500 a more purposeful appearance.
The Cannon Alpha 3.0-litre Vanta will be priced at $71,990+ORC, while the TANK 500 3.0-litre Vanta will arrive at $79,990+ORC.
GWM says the pricing places the new models thousands of dollars below comparable competitors, as it looks to challenge established players in New Zealand’s ute and large SUV markets.
There is more behind the new diesel than its price tag. Development has been led by GWM ANZ’s lead product dynamics and integration manager, Rob Trubiani, with more than six months of regional engineering and validation. Testing vehicles have covered more than 35,000km across demanding Australian environments, including the Flinders Ranges, Victoria’s High Country and the Big Desert. Development has also extended to areas such as towing and transmission calibration, brake controller functionality and cruise control.
The investment highlights the importance GWM is placing on Australia and New Zealand, which are among the first markets globally to receive the new 3.0-litre diesel. With new Vanta variants, competitive pricing and greater choice across diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, GWM is continuing to broaden its offering for Kiwi drivers.
