Mercedes-AMG is further expanding its motorsport involvement for customers in Australia and New Zealand in cooperation with Queensland-based Triple Eight Race Engineering.

The facility of the highly successful Australian motorsport enterprise will become the new central support centre for the German performance and sports car brand’s racing operations in the Pacific region.

Triple Eight is working closely with the Affalterbach-based development partner HWA AG to establish the new operation dedicated to supporting Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Teams throughout the region.

Customers in Australia and New Zealand will receive comprehensive support at the highest level. In addition to quick and reliable spare parts supply, the opportunity for rebuilds and repair of Mercedes-AMG GT3 and GT4 cars from Affalterbach is also part of the portfolio. At selected race and test events in Australia and New Zealand, a spare parts truck will guarantee on-site support with parts supply and engineering know-how.

Triple Eight Race Engineering (Australia) Pty Ltd ranks among the most professional and successful motorsport enterprises in Australia. Next to multiple title wins in the Australian Supercars Championship, the team also has numerous achievements in GT racing. Since 2019, Triple Eight has run the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in championship events and enduros. In 2020, competing in the Bathurst 12-Hour Race with Performance Team status and extended works support, Triple Eight’s entry finished third overall.

By establishing the new motorsport hub, Mercedes-AMG and Triple Eight take their cooperation to a new level to ensure customer teams in Australia and New Zealand receive even more direct and close support at the highest level. Customers, meanwhile, benefit from shorter distances and comprehensive service that, in cooperation with HWA AG, also includes engineering services. Long-standing HWA expert, Andrew Barrett, will remain on duty as a support engineer ping system.

Moreover, the new motorsport hub strengthens the Mercedes-AMG brand’s presence in the region and further supports Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific Pty Ltd (MBAuP) with race cars and know-how for the implementation of AMG Driving Academy activities.

In addition to providing service and support for customer teams, Triple Eight will continue to compete in races as a Customer Team and/or Performance Team of Mercedes-AMG. Triple Eight is also authorised to offer test drive opportunities to Mercedes-AMG GT3 and GT4 customers, and to oversee provision of motorsport experiences in conjunction with the AMG Driving Academy.

Stefan Wendl, head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing:
“We are really happy to be able to provide an even better service to our Customer Racing Teams and vehicle owners in Australia and New Zealand. In Triple Eight Race Engineering, we have found the perfect partner for the implementation of this task. The company is working in a highly professional way and also has the engineering expertise to carry out repair and rebuild work, next to spare part supply and sales logistics, in accordance with our high quality standards. The new motorsport hub pools all Customer Racing competences for the region at the same level as in Affalterbach.”

Roland Dane, Triple Eight Race Engineering:
“Having been a part of both the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing and Performance Racing programs over the last few years, everyone at Triple Eight is very excited and honoured by the opportunity to further expand our relationship with Mercedes-AMG. Our GT program has enjoyed success both on and off the track under the AMG umbrella. We take very seriously the task of the expanded affiliation with the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing brand with the provision of both factory parts and service for GT3 and GT4 cars in Australia and New Zealand. We look forward helping to grow the number of Mercedes-AMG customer cars in the region by providing unrivalled backup for AMG racing owners.”
