Electric Jaecoo J5 Confirmed for New Zealand Arrival

Jaecoo has confirmed that its new J5 EV will launch in New Zealand in early 2026, expanding the brand’s local line-up and adding another value-packed compact electric SUV to an increasingly competitive segment. The J5 EV is positioned as a practical, technology-focused model aimed at buyers seeking everyday usability paired with modern electric performance.
The J5 EV is a versatile electric SUV that blends everyday usability with thoughtful design touches. According to Jaecoo New Zealand, the vehicle emphasises functional comfort and usability, featuring an interior crafted with antibacterial materials, smart storage solutions, and minimalist controls to elevate everyday driving experiences.
Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm, paired with a 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The setup delivers a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 402 kilometres. DC fast charging is rated at up to 130kW, allowing a 30 to 80 per cent recharge in approximately 28 minutes under optimal conditions. Vehicle-to-Load capability is also included, enabling the J5 EV to power external devices and accessories.
The SUV’s cabin is modern and well-equipped, featuring a prominent 13.2-inch central touchscreen coupled with a digital instrument cluster, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Comfort and convenience features include heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof with powered sunshade.
Safety and driver aids are comprehensive, with a suite of advanced systems including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and a 360-degree camera system, supported by multiple airbags for enhanced occupant protection.
